B-R's Cerny to be inducted into football hall of fame

Bancroft-Rosalie's Dr. Jon Cerny is among 12 coaches who will be inducted into the new Nebraska Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame this summer.

Among the superintendent's accomplishments with his players are earning state champion in 1985 and 1999, being state runner-up in 1986 and 2006 and qualifying for state 23 years--in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 11 straight years from 2004 to 2014. He earned his 200th win in October 2009, and has coached in a handful of Eight-Man All-Star Games

Joining him in this elite crowd are Terry Borcher of Table Rock, Mike Brown of Mullen, Al Combs of Potter, Jim Connick of Hampton, Ken Cook of Adams, Gary DeBoer of Lawrence-Nelson, Tom Majors of Wheeler Central, Dan Moore of Ansley, John O'Brien of Shelby, Dave Scribner of Trumbull and Jack Sunderland of Wheatland.

That group, along with players Brian Vitosh of Odell and Mike Hahn of Hampton, will be recognized at an event June 17 at the Tom Osborne Family Sports Complex in Hastings. The ceremony will be held at halftime of the 40th annual Sertoma Eight-Man All-Star Game.

The Hall of Fame is presented by the Nebraska Eight-Man Football Coaches Association and sponsored by Pinnacle Bank of Nebraska.
