Girls perfect cheer skills during 2-day camp

With four girls joining the B-R cheer squad as freshmen this year, unity and teamwork were focal points of a two-day camp held recently at the school.

Making up the nine-member squad are seniors Suzanne Ras, Jerrica Tietz and Brianna Wegner, sophomores Kennedy Schuttler and Tess Nottlemann and freshmen Anna Currier, Maddie Hansen, Kailey Irwin and Teagan Steinmeyer. They are coached again this year by Amber Bridges.

Throughout the two days, the squad learned three time-out and six sideline cheers, new jump techniques and an extreme and hip-hop routine. Evaluations of those routines earned the girls two superiors and one excellent. Jerrica Tietz, co-captain, was the winner of the jump competition.

At the conclusion of the camp, put on by Universal Cheerleaders Association, each member had to the opportunity to try out for an All-American squad, earning a chance to travel to London and perform in the New Year's Day parade. Qualifying for that honor were Tietz, Ras, Wegner and Nottlemann.
