Gilder-Lehrman Institute has named Mr. James Hulstein the 2025 Nebraska History Teacher of the Year, and we couldn’t be prouder!
This prestigious honor recognizes outstanding educators who bring passion, creativity, and depth to their teaching of American history. Mr. Hulstein teaches a range of history and social studies courses at Bancroft-Rosalie Community School, where he helps students connect the past to the present, explore diverse perspectives, and engage in meaningful learning experiences.
As Nebraska’s awardee, Mr. Hulstein is now one of 53 finalists for the National History Teacher of the Year, selected from over 7,000 nominations submitted each year across the country.
We’re incredibly proud of Mr. Hulstein and grateful for the dedication and leadership he brings to our students and our school community.

Today we had the special honor of welcoming back Jorge Beraun, Bancroft’s very first foreign exchange student! 🇵🇪

Jorge came to Bancroft from Huancayo, Peru, and graduated with the Class of 1971. After his time here, he went on to attend the University of North Dakota.

It was truly inspiring to hear Jorge’s story and learn about his journey over the years. What a meaningful reminder of the lasting connections formed through education and cultural exchange! 🌎💙
