While the crowd was fired up for the Boys D2-7 District Final basketball game at Bancroft-Rosalie last night, there was also a big moment off the court. Senior Kayl Gomez had the opportunity to announce on the radio broadcast alongside KTIC Sports announcer Joel Janecek.
Kayl is no stranger to calling games. He’s been part of the school’s broadcasting class for three years and has been the voice of many B-R basketball games streamed on Hudl and Striv. His experience and love for sports broadcasting have made him a familiar voice to local fans.
He also spends his Fridays interning at West Point’s radio station, 107.9 The Bull. The hands-on experience has allowed him to learn the ins and outs of professional radio, from production to on-air performance.
Sharing the microphone with seasoned broadcaster Joel Janecek was a milestone moment that showcased how far Kayl’s talents have come. It was a proud night for Bancroft-Rosalie — not just for the team’s performance on the court, but for one of its own shining behind the scenes.
