Berg is 'Career Scholar'

Aubrey Berg, a senior at Bancroft-Rosalie, has been selected for the Wayne State College "Growing Together Career Scholars Program."

The Growing Together Career Scholars program is an accelerated curriculum program at WSC that arms students with the knowledge as well as the soft skills to work in a business related to their major during their senior year.

In the first three years at WSC, they have the opportunity to engage with Norfolk business partners through site visits, job shadowing and mentorships. During their senior year, they move to Norfolk where they earn 18 credit hours by working for a Norfolk business for approximately 30 hours a week over a nine-month period.

As part of the program, students are required to reside in housing in the downtown Norfolk area, which provides them the opportunity to engage academically and socially with their peers. This portion of the program helps them connect with the community and gain an appreciation for the many social and cultural opportunities available in the city of Norfolk. Upon graduation, the goal is for students to be hired into full-time positions in northeast Nebraska.

To ensure they have financial support to remain focused on the program, students receive a scholarship ranging from $2,000-$10,000 per year to cover tuition, fees, room and board. The bulk of the scholarship is paid out during their senior year to help cover housing while living in downtown Norfolk. The total scholarship package is valued around $24,000 over the four years in the program.
