Sunscreen now available at school

The Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) is providing non-regulatory guidance on sun safety, with direction for promoting it among students in school.

Health risk prevention is as an important component of any school program. Sun safety practices that begin early in life and are consistently followed contribute to the prevention of ultraviolet illnesses, including skin cancer. Facilitating sun safety habits in the school environment can assist students in reducing potential risk for these illnesses.

The NDE recommends that students be allowed to possess and use FDA-regulated sunscreen without a prescription and be able to store sunscreen in a site easily accessible to the student. The NDE recommends an opt-out method for your district, allowing students as much skin protection from the sun as possible.

Students at Bancroft-Rosalie can see Mrs. Linda Munderloh, the school nurse, if they need sunscreen.
