JH debut at speech meet
Bancroft-Rosalie made its recent debut on the junior high speech circuit at the Wayne Bluedevil Junior High Speech Meet and brought home a silver medal in oral interpretation of drama (OID). OID members Lauren Kramer, Ella Bridges, Makenna King, Stephanie Wiese, and Kennedi Cooper performed “Disney Heroine Roundtable” to take the silver medal.
A total of 11 speakers got their feet wet competing in the lone meet of the year for B-R’s junior high. Besides the runner-up OID, B-R entered Cale Kai and Zora Villanueva in public speaking. Kai wrote and performed an informative presentation on concussions while Villanueva preprared and delievered a persuasive speech on the need to recycle.
Kai joined Zeena Villanueva, Grace Johnson, Megan Beutler and Elyse Raasch to perform “Any Body for Tea” as an OID. The two Villanuevas also teamed up in a duet acting titled “The DMV Tyrant.”
“Junior high speech is becoming more and more popular around the area, and we decided we should give our kids the opportunity to try it out,” Coach Ronda Ras said. “There have been a few previous meets, but we didn’t get started soon enough for those, so this was a trial run for our kids. Our kids all worked really hard, and I am so proud of their accomplishments. I hope they enjoyed it enough to start a bit sooner and compete in a full season next year.”
B-R’s next speech activity will be their elementary speech and drama camp May 29-June 1. The Panther varsity speech team will assist students going into third through sixth grades as they gain experience with various public speaking and acting events. Registration forms are available at the school.
