Panthers qualify for state speech
At last week's district speech competition that Bancroft-Rosalie hosted for a second year in a row, the Panthers qualified six in individual events and a group of five as an OID team.
The B-R speech team came away from the District D1-2 event with runner-up status. Qualifying for state are seniors Anna Currier, 1st place in humorous prose and serious prose; Teagan Steinmeyer, 3rd in entertainment, and Josh Wilson, 2nd in extemporaneous; junior Zoe Sjuts, 2nd in persuasive; and freshmen Alexzi Nottlemann, 2nd in serious prose, and Maria Ras, 2nd in informative.
Making up the OID, which placed 3rd at districts, are Steinmeyer and Sjuts and seniors Joe Lonewolf and Miguel Madrid and junior Kariden Briggs.
Other district medal winners were Briggs, 4th in informative; senior Zach Bridges, 6th in extemporaneous; junior Olivia Osborne, 5th in poetry, and sophomore Mikki Byrne, 6th in entertainment. Bridges and Nottlemann placed 6th in duet and a second OID team of Ras and freshmen Emma Beutler and Audra Nolting placed fourth.
State speech competition begins Friday at Kearney.
