The biology students in Mrs. Henry's class sent a great deal of time learning about ecology and the interdependence between living things and the environment. They learned about the importance of conservation and caring for our environment and how any changes to the environment have a ripple effect on all living things.

To fully cement their learning, the students completed a service project and endangered sculpture project. As a part of the service project, the students were asked to gather paper to be recycled throughout the school, and they bared the cold and organized the community trailer that holds the recycled paper and cardboard boxes. By doing so, they not only made a direct impact on their community, but they also saved trees, a very precious natural resource, by helping to recycle the papers. Mrs. Henry was very proud of her class and the service they provided.

The students were also asked to use garbage to create sculptures of endangered animals and then write a report about the importance of those organisms, what we can do to try to save them and the repercussions if those organisms disappeared.

The students were very creative in their designs, sculpting endangered woodpeckers, sea turtles, pandas, polar bears, fox and much, much more.

Biology student Tyra Bonneau said it best when she stated, "The ironic thing is that the very things I used to create my sculpture are the things causing their extinction."

Yes, Tyra! You understood the purpose of the project. Mrs. Henry gave a thumbs up to all her amazing students who worked so hard on both the service project and endangered animal sculpture project. Way to make a difference in your world!
