Nursing students get hands-on skills

The Certified Nursing Assistant class has been very busy learning and perfecting their skills. They have become very competent in donning and doffing their personal protective equipment, and all of them now understand why they need to protect themselves from pathogens and how to accomplish this.

They have mastered the skills of changing bed linens with a resident in the bed as well as the proper techniques to turning a resident in bed. Practicing bathing skills on our manikin “Suzie” was a completely new experience.

The latest skill accomplished was to learn how to feed another person. Each of them had some degree of disability and sight issues. They were all very surprised how different these things make the dining experience. There was a lot of laughter while doing this skill as they had never fed another person before.

Our next skill is to learn how to take blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperatures.
