'Academic battles motivate students'
by Justice Johnson
The 2017 Bancroft-Rosalie Academic Team has had their fair share of testing this year. Aside from taking tests such as MAPS, NESA and the ACT, a handful of students have also participated in TEAMS and the Nebraska Academic Decathlon.
Even more students recently attended the Northeast Scholastic Contest as well as the ESU and East Husker Quiz Bowl. These academic battles motivate students to work to the peak of their abilities to receive a decent ranking at each competition. This year, Tests in Engineering, Aptitude, Mathematics and Science or TEAMS required students to take a test and build an apparatus to transfer a bottle into the center of the target within the allowed time. In building this apparatus, the students were only able to use rubber bands, paper clips and other office-like supplies. The Nebraska Academic Decathlon then required each participant to take a series of multiple tests throughout the day. Each student who contributes to the Academic Team is very motivated, and they each have a desire to achieve academic greatness.
The Nebraska Academic Decathlon required students to use their personal knowledge to complete a series of tests. This year, Bancroft-Rosalie took the following students: Kelcee Bacon, Mariah Peterson, Jacob Zuhlke, Michael Snyder, Jacob Cole, Anna Currier, Lauren Ahlers and Aaron Ras. Zach Bridges competed in the Varsity division and received 1st place on art and science as well as 2nd place on math and language. On March 18th, the Academic Team attended the first of two Quiz bowls. Tess Nottlemann, Anna Currier, Lauren Ahlers, Aaron Ras and Jacob Zuhlke participated and received 8th place as a team.
