Students become authors
In Language Arts 9, the students wrote and illustrated their own children’s picture books.
They began the unit by critiquing and establishing what makes an effective children’s book. They looked at different themes that are commonly found in the book. Each story is as unique as the author behind it. The students choose whether to include color in their illustrations or stick with a classic black and white.
Once the books are published and returned to the school, the freshmen classes will take turns reading to the kindergarten and first grade classes.
The students will each get a hardbound copy of their book. Additional copies can be purchased by family members by contacting Mrs. Linnerson at alinnerson@esu2.org.
