Elementary expanding library knowledge

The elementary library students in each grade level have been developing different library skills.

Kindergarten through second grade has been studying the meanings of the title, author, illustrator and importance of the spine, front and back cover of books. The third through sixth grade students have been using their iPads to locate titles, the location and whether the book is available.

The third through sixth graders are looking at the online World Book (The World Book has primary source documents and e-books fully integrated with encyclopedia content plus timelines, citation builder and saved research) and Nebraska Access provides the Ebsco Host. The Ebsco Host supplies a fee-based online research service with 375 full-text databases, a collection of 600,000-plus e-books, subject indexes, point-of-care medical references and an array of historical digital archives.

By going to the quick links at the B-R homepage site and selecting the Library Media Resource button, there is an amazing world of resources available at your fingertips. A few sites of interest in EBSCO are full text magazines, biography reference centers and Points of View. For those who like to do genealogy, “My Heritage” is also included in this package. The students/adults can log-in with just a click of the button at school but outside of school, they will need to use the password given to them.

If the student has forgotten the password, contact Mrs. Ross at the library. All Nebraskans with a driver’s license can access these sites with their driver’s license number.
