Kids stay busy after school
by Virginia Frisch
The 2016-17 school year is upon us, and I am excited for my third year as the After-School Program Director.
Why an After-School Program? Our program supports the students’ academic achievements, promotes positive behavior, and we know where our children are.
B-R Superintendent Dr. Jon Cerny received the Nebraska 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. The after-school staff consists of Carol Cerny, Kristal Cooper and B-R senior Gabbi Wilson.
Each day the students will have 30 minutes of education, 30 minutes of physical fitness and 30 minutes of enrichment. The education program consists of helping with homework, doing IXL or Xtra math while the physical fitness times include a game or dance as a group. The enrichment program offers robotics, crazy 8’s, crafts, outdoor skills and other activities. The students are divided into three groups: preschool, kindergarten-second grade and third-sixth grade.
The after-school program is offered on school days from school dismissal to 6 pm. Preschool, elementary and junior high students are welcome to attend at no cost. A snack is offered each day and is run through the child's school lunch account.
