Pair to compete at national skills competition

After a strong showing at the Skills USA Nebraska State Championships last week in Omaha, Bancroft-Rosalie juniors Trenton Schmeckpeper and Nolan Smith earned the right to compete in the national championships in Louisville, Ken., in June. They earned first place in Robotics Urban Search and Rescue.

The Century Link Center hosted more than 1,000 high school and college students who competed in 80 different competitions from precision cutting and carpentry to welding, baking and metal work.

Skills USA helps students prepare for careers just like the ones they competed in. There was also a team building event with four categories in one that included electrical work, plumbing, masonry and carpentry.

Another award brought back to B-R was the Skills USA Charter won by Wyatt Hennig and Jacob Zuhlke. Other Panthers competing were Trenton Gatewood, Ty Hermelbracht and Ethan Nelson. Their sponsor was Mr. T.J. Hilsinger.
