Food drive will help during holiday seasons

We need help to reach 2,000-pound goal

As many of you know, hunger is an issue for many people in the United States today. We here at the Bancroft-Rosalie school would like to assist those people in need, and the eighth grade class has taken it upon themselves to help. Students can donate non-perishable food items through Tuesday. The goal is to reach 2,000 pounds of donated items.

The elementary students will be having a competition for the most amount of food donated. Each class will compete against the other classes, and the class that brings the most pounds of food by Tuesday will be declared the winner. Elementary students should turn in their items in a designated area in their classroom. There will be a reward for the winning class, but if the 2,000-pound goal is met, the entire elementary will be rewarded.

Right now the 6th grade class is leading the competition with 80 pounds, but the kindergarten is close behind with 79. After weighing the items this morning, there has been 407 pounds donated, far short of the 2,000-pound goal.

"Numerous families in our school district have been identified as needy families, and I believe we have an opportunity to help these families," said 8th grade Civics instructor Rod Peters.

So to help reach that 2,000-pound goal, Peters has asked the students to continue donating but has extended the invitation to the school staff as well. Come on, help us meet our goal!
