Midsummer night is comical

Earlier this week, students at Bancroft-Rosalie gave a public performance of this year's one-act production, A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.

Making their final roll call on the stage were seniors Derek Ahlers, Kylita Gomez, Ian Nottlemann, Suzanne Ras, Jaeliesa Switzer, Jerrica Tietz and Brianna Wegner.

This came a week after the group performed at Stanton and two days before they presented at Wisner-Pilger. The actors will continue to practice in preparation of the East Husker Conference One-Act contest scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Lyons, and the district play production Dec. 2 at Humphrey St. Francis. Students and staff at B-R will get to view one of Shakespeare's most popular plays Wednesday morning before they break for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The play is a comedy that portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies that inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

Stealing the spotlight definitely has to be Ian Nottlemann as "Bottom." Other standouts include Austin Bruning as "Quince," Wyatt Hennig as "Flute," Brianna Wegner as "Titania" and Suzanne Ras as the devious "Puck."
