Staff, students contribute to 'Kisses for Kaitlyn'

The staff here at Bancroft-Rosalie believes helping those outside the school when they can. In fact, since Jan. 2013, staff members have contributed $1,512 to numerous worthwhile causes, the most recent being "Kisses for Kaitlyn."

Little Kaitlyn Warne was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia as well as a serious bone marrow disorder known as Myelofibrosis. The two-year-old is the daughter of Matt and Heather (Buchholz) Warne of Sioux Falls, S.D., and granddaughter of Brian and Cindy Buchholz of rural Bancroft.

At the end of August, just weeks before Kaitlyn turned two, she started chemotherapy and underwent several blood and platelet transfusions. Over the next two months, she will receive two more rounds of chemotherapy. If everything goes as expected, she will then be transferred to the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. There she will receive a bone marrow transplant that could include 100 days in the hospital with limited visitation.

Last week, staff members donated $5 to be able to wear jeans to school. The group raised $350 with another $283.92 donated by last year's senior class to help Kaitlyn and her family.
