Led by double medalists, Erin Beutler, Elizabeth Feller, Molly Hermelbract, Anna Bailey, and Olivia Nottlemann, the Bancroft-Rosalie Speech Team brought home a total of 13 medals from the Lutheran High Northeast Invitational in Norfolk Friday, Feb. 12.
Erin Beutler scored two golds, winning persuasive with her presentation on gastric bypass surgery and teaming up with Elizabeth Feller and Mitchell Wellman to take gold in oral interpretation of drama (OID) with their cutting from “Once Upon a Beginning.” Feller also took third in serious prose. Freshman Olivia Nottlemann grabbed a gold in extemporaneous speaking and added a fifth-place finish in poetry. Molly Hermelbract got second in informative speaking, while Anna Bailey took fourth in extemporaneous. The two joined Jenae Gatzemeyer, Amy Carlson, and Taylor Ostrand to take fourth in OID.
B-R’s Matthew Wegner finished third in humorous prose, while teammate Connor Brummond took fourth. Jasmine Greenfield’s informative speech earned her a fifth-place medal, and Raymond Cookman tied for sixth in poetry. The duet acting team of Whitney Larsen and Cameron Smyth also took sixth place for the Panthers.
“This meet allowed us to face some new competition in schools like O’Neill St. Mary’s and Plainview,” commented Coach Ronda Ras. “We also got input from some judges we had not seen before, which allows us to get some new perspectives on how we can improve heading into district.”
The Panthers’ next outing will be Saturday, Feb. 20, at the West Point Beemer Invitational to be held in West Point. Speaking begins at 8:00 a.m. and, as always, is open to the public. Following Saturday’s meet, the B-R team will present their public performance Monday evening, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The event is free, and all ages are welcome to attend.
