Let's Get Ready to Spell

by Holly Marr

February 08, 2010

Most people can spell, but if you don't, I'll going to tell you all about the Spelling Bee coming up this Wednesday, February 10th at West Point Public School. If there is a snow storm it will be postponed til Wednesday, February 17th. Grades 4-6 will be at noon and grades 7-8 will be at 2 p.m.

The classes that get to go to the Spelling Bee are grades 4-8. Here are a list of the kids that get to go to the Spelling Bee: from the 4th grade Coltin B., Zachary B., Miguel M., Mariah P., Michael S., and Jacob Z.
From the 5th grade these students get to go: Amber E., Kennady G., Grayden H., Wyatt H., Tess N., and Kobe S.
From the 6th grade these fine young students get to go: Kassidi B., Hannah F., Vanessa M., Joseph P., Ashten R., and Devin S.
The 7th graders that get to go are: Kenny A., Mason G., Ian N., Dylan S., Jaelisa S., and Brianna, and they also have an alternative which is Suzanne R.
For the 8th graders these selective students get to go: Mary Jo M. Shelby O., Preston P., Nick S., Seth S., and Allie V, and they to have an alternative which is Paige R.

Well, I wanted to find out more about this so called "Spelling Bee," so I ask two of the students that are going my questions. I asked fourth grader Zachary B. and fifth grader Grayden H all my questions.
First I asked them: Are you ready for the Spelling Bee? Zachary answered confidently, “Yes, I am ready for the Spelling Bee,” while Grayden answered with a little less zest, “I'm somewhat ready for the Spelling Bee.”
The second Question was: How did you get chosen for the Spelling Bee? They both answered, “I had to take a test, and I thought it was an easy test.”
My 3rd question was: How are you preparing for the spelling bee? Zachary answered, “I study every night,” and Grayden replied, “I practice every night before I go to bed.”
My 4th and final question I asked was: Do you think the Spelling Bee is going to be fun? They both answered, “I think it’s going to be fun.”

Well, I hope you can attend and see who is going to be this year's Spelling Bee champion, because I know I will!
