On April 29th, the Bancroft-Rosalie 5th and 6th graders went to AshFall Fossil Beds by Royal, Nebraska. They had a tour guide that showed them a slideshow about the animals that died about 12 million years ago due to a volcano that erupted in southwest Idaho and how they are related to common animals today. After the slideshow, the 5th and 6th graders visited the “Rhino Barn”, the building that encloses the archeological dig. When they got there, their guide put ash in their hands. They then put the ash to the light and it sparkled. He told them that the ash had glass in it and that’s what made it sparkle. Then the guide showed and told them about the animals that were found in the “Rhino Barn.” After that, they piled in the bus and headed into Royal. They went to a park and ate lunch for an hour. After they finished eating, they got back on the bus and went to the Trout Rearing Station. Mrs. James and Mrs. English showed them a video about the life of a trout and then they went to feed the trout.
“It was fun to see the trout jump out of the water just to get the food. You could almost catch them,” said one 6th grader.
After they fed the fish, they got back on the bus and went to Dairy Queen. One 6th grader said it was fun because one of the workers told them if somebody could sing one of the Free Credit Report.com jingles all the way through, they would get something free. Two people did it and got an ice cream product free. After they finished eating, they all got back on the bus and headed home.
