Kindergarten waits for the Eggs to Hatch!

Provided by Cuming County Extension Office

April 28, 2008

On Monday, April 21st, the Bancroft-Rosalie Kindergarten class received 12 chicken eggs and an incubator from the Cuming County Extension Office.  The kindergartners will be watching the eggs daily until they hatch; this process usually takes 21 days.  The kids made books last week to learn how the chicks grow inside the eggs.  When Mr. Sjuts was hunting last Thursday night, he found two gosling eggs and decided to put them in the incubator with the chicks too.  A few kindergartners had some things to say about the eggs:

“When they hatch they’re gonna be wet and their feathers will be down,” said one kindergartner.

“I think they’ll be ostriches!” exclaimed another.

One kindergartner thought, “The eggs are so cute!”

“The big eggs are huge.” stated a kindergartner.

They will keep the chicks for a few days after they hatch and then they will go home with a kindergartner who lives on a farm.
