- Students will use periods, question marks, commas, quotation marks, underlining, apostrophes, and other basic punctuation appropriately in increasingly more complex sentence structures.
- Students will understand the elements of a complete sentence and will create increasingly more complex structures with few fragments or run ons.

- Students’ final drafts will contain few major departures from standard usage and punctuation conventions.
12.2.2 Write compositions with a clear focus, logically related ideas, and adequate supporting detail.
