Fifth Grade

8.1.1Identify the basic facts and essential ideas in what they have read or viewed.

      -  recall text characteristics.

      -  generate questions from given texts.

      -  clarify ideas by rereading and discussing the text.

      -  follow directions at a fifth grade level.

      -  demonstrate comprehension through written and oral responses.

 

8.1.2 Locate, access, and evaluate resources to identify appropriate       information.

      -  locate and access information in an encyclopedia.

      -  locate and access information using an index.

      -  use a card catalog to locate, select books, and access information to meet           personal interests and learning needs.

 

8.1.3 Identify characteristics of different types of texts.

      -  Students will independently read fictional literature written in the English          language.

 

8.1.4 Identify the structure and elements of fiction and provide evidence                from the text to support their understanding.

          adjective, and adverb.

      -  use appropriate sentence structure.

      -  use correct capitalization.

      -  use correct paragraph indentation.

      -  use correct English spelling for the 5th grade level.

 

8.2.2 Write compositions with a clear focus, logically related ideas, and                 adequate supporting detail.

      -      generate ideas using Venn Diagrams.

      -      organize their ideas using Venn Diagrams.

 

8.2.3 Demonstrate improvement in organization, content, word choice,                   voice, sentence fluency, and standard English conventions after                      revising and editing their compositions.

      -  write legibly.

      -  use knowledge of types of sentences, mechanics, usage, sentence structure, and          standard English spelling to edit their writing at the 5th grade level.

 

8.2.4 Use a variety of forms to write for different audiences and                       purposes.

8.3.2 Make owl presentations that demonstrate appropriate consideration of audience, purpose, and information to be conveyed.

      -  prepare and make oral presentations when giving their science fair                                   presentations.

 

 

 

Listening

 

8.4.1 Apply listening skills in a variety of settings.

      -  read and follow multi-step directions.

      -  actively listen to other students during oral reading and display an                                   understanding.

 

8.4.2 Adapt and apply listening strategies to the setting.

      -   demonstrate appropriate audience behavior and respond suitably to information              gained in listening.
